Rev. Michael Piazza, president of "Hope for Peace and Justice" is a new member of the ECAPC board.  He maintains a website dedicated to "Equipping progressive people of faith to be champions for peace and justice."  From that website we are sharing in the next six days his introductory words on six issues which he has selected for attention.  We encourage you  to visit his website and give feed back on these issues, and your thoughts.  --John Stoner

Our Issues

Religious dialogue is so dominated by conservative churches, denominations and para-church organizations that the average American is left believing that radical conservative views are the only ones held by spiritual people.

In recent years, it has become apparent that there is a need for an organization that will speak to the values and views that are held by progressive people of faith and give voice to those views in our national dialogue. Seeking justice for the marginalized and advocating for peace have been, and continue to be, values deeply rooted in the tradition of Judaism, the history of Christianity and the authenticity of Islam.

The progressive church has a long and noble history of engaging the political system around issues of peace and justice. From the fight for the abolition of slavery to the modern civil rights struggle, churches, synagogues and mosques have worked for justice. In that tradition, Hope for Peace & Justice was formed to be a vocal force for those of progressive faith and ideology. We give voice to values such as:

The creation of a culture of peace rather than war.
The value of people over profits.
Equal rights for all people, not just the majority.
The protection of the environment before the corporate bottom line.
Healthcare as a civil right for all, not just for the wealthy.
The same quality of justice for the poor as for the rich.

We encourage you to do something to promote peace and justice in the world. Whether you are a person of faith or someone who has no professed religious or spiritual faith, it is important for you to work to overcome cynicism and complacency and take personal responsibility for making peace and doing justice.

We would love for you to get involved with Hope for Peace & Justice as a partner in this great work.
